I can’t believe it’s been almost two months since my last post. I can say without any hesitations that those 3 months in San Francisco have been the best of my life so far. Since Memorial Day, a lot of things happened. If I only had to name a few, it would be those : 4th of Juyl, EDC Las Vegas, Food & drink moments to remember for life.
My internship just ended
And it’s time to relax and plan the ultimate experience. As you know, I’ve attended more than 50 shows for free since I’ve been here. But more important, I was able to make friends thanks to generous PR people. This internship at eventseeker also gave me serious opportunities in music photography.
The work atmosphere was also one of the best I ever had (big up to The Pit). We recently went to see a Giants game (my second) and they thanked me with SF gifts and a goodbye meal.
I recently captured Detroit Swindle and The Opiuo Band. The highlight of this internship will be Hard SF, where I’ll be taking pictures for Brodinski and The Chemical Brothers (yes, you read it well).
Here a non exhaustive list of artists I saw performing and/or photographed :
Infected Mushroom – Pendulum – Camo & Krooked – Of Monsters And Men – Diversa – Panic at The Disco – Cold War Kids – The Kooks – Vicetone – Death from above 1979 – The Wombats – Geotheory – State Champs – Issues – Neon Trees – Alison Wonderland – Hoodboi – Chris McClenney – Penthouse Penthouse – All Time Low – Chromeo – The Glitch Mob – Com Truise – Smallpools – Cheerleader – MS MR – The Chemical Brothers – Rone – Aurora – The OPIUO Band – S.P.Y. – Submorphics – The Upbeats – Datsik – Skism – Laxx – Congorock – Pretty Lights – Flume – Noisia – Duke Dumont (live) – Avicii – Galantis – FKJ – Snakehips – Bassnectar – Martin Solveig – Oliver Heldens – Detroit Swindle Kaskade – Danny Daze – Art Department – Life In Film – Gaia – Andy C – Ed Rush & Optical – Spor – The Weeknd – Giraffage – Porter Robinson – Dillon Francis – Caribou – Tchami – Dirtyphonics – Maya Jane Coles – Jack Ü – Ratatat – Gorgon City – Brodinski – Boys Noize – Le Castlevania – August Burns Red
Next to this more than delightful internship, I also VJ (FYI, sync videos with Dj’s music) for a local Drum & Bass crew, Stamina. I had the chance to meet S.P.Y and Spor thanks to them. Their last party was in 1015 folsom, one of the biggest clubs in the city.
Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas
I didn’t brag too much about it until recently, because it seemed too good to be true. It actually happened. My friend Jennifer (whom I met recently) decided to invite me to go to EDC Las Vegas, the biggest dance music festival in the world. In addition to that, I was staying at one of the most iconic hotels on the strip; the Bellagio and it’s well known fountains.
Music and visual-wise, I’ve never seen something like that. I’ve been to festivals where an effort is put on scenography and stage setups, but it was like an EDM Disneyland. Non stop fireworks, my favourite bass music DJ’s on a huge open air stage, live sets, loads of discoveries, and a magical mainstage, the Kinetic Field. I was mostly raving with my friend Thibaud (Parisian promoter I met at this Camo & Krooked show in May) who also got tickets for the biggest rave in the country.
San Francisco is a cosmopolitan city. Hispanic and Asian communities made me fall in love with their food. I’ve tried a lot of different places (within a reasonable price range). I made a few Asian friends, with Chinese, Taiwanese and Filipino roots. The City even has dedicated neighborhoods (Chinatown, Japantown). I spent the 4th of July in Tomales Bay with Karen & Alice and their friends. I was the only “white” guy (that’s how they call my ethnicity). I ended up watching the fireworks with Shui Hua (codename Ashley).
